SFD ALWAYS removes the existing plywood SUB-Floor to expose the Beams, Blocks, Floor Joists and Pipes/Utilities. The Beams will Twist and the Floor-Joists will "Sag" over Decades. Loads from the roof tiles can apply excessive pressures on the floor joists which will increase the rate of deflection. Areas that are High will be machine planed and sanded down. Areas that are too low will have fiberboard shims installed on TOP of the floor joists in order to make the frame in the bedroom, bathroom or hallway into a Perfectly Straight and Level "Plane." Upon completion of the Straightening and Leveling processes, the SFD will install Sturd-I-Floor Brand plywood SUB-Floor and screwed into place. We call this method: "INTERNAL" Structural Leveling. This SFD Methodology is COMPLETELY OPPOSITE from the two (2) widely practiced methods used by the RFI and Tile Installers: They will add "Sisters" or "Doublers" on the SIDES of the floor joists. The problem with this method is that the Sister's and Doubler's will Crack and Wiggle Loose over time and begin to make squeaking sounds. While this is also an Internal Method, it is a much quicker and inferior and cannot be as accurate. 2) The other most common "External" methods is to use cementitious compounds and then Spread this Material over the High/Low Areas in a Futile Attempt to make the Surface Flat for Tile or Laminate Flooring Installations. Since there are literally thousands of brands on the market, they are widely used. ***BUYER BEWARE*** While this may appear to be a "Cosmetically" viable low cost alternative, because of movement and shifting of the thin plywood SUB-Floor, these compounds will fail over a short amount of time and crack. Therefore, The Squeaky Floor Doctor Strongly Advises to NEVER use Self-Leveling Compound products to attempt to smooth out HIGH/LOW AREAS as they are primarily formulated to bond to Concrete Floors and NOT ADHERE to Plywood SubFloors.
